Evaluation of the Music Video.

During the production of the music video, there were many difficulties that had arisen. For example, when selecting the footage to use for our music video. I admit, there some really good locations that could have been used, but ended up not used just because of flaws that are seen within them, such as shaky hands when holding the camera, inappropriate objects that are seen within some shots so we ended up not using them. Additionally, some shots also were not used because it did not seem to 'fit in' with the overall sequence, and our group concluded that minimal locations was better suited rather than a 'overload' of a variety of shots we took.

Furthermore, it was hard to add in 'text' within the sequence, without it looking too tacky. As one of our ideas was to use this 'comic' style look, we tried our best to incorporate this idea within our music video, which only looked best with transitions. To an extent, it can be argued that it looks effective but it can also come across as unprofessional.

I believe that we could have edited our sequence more in time with the beat, and we could have also used a narrative approach. However, we did have a narrative in mind, where our initial idea was to portray the artist to be daydreaming about a 'fun loving' self of her, which we did do but it was not necessarily in chronological order. We could have progressed these shots gradually, rather than randomly cutting each base track in a random order.

Feedback from rough cut video and Analysis of sequence.

The feedback we had from our teachers had a mixture of views. On the whole, they liked the video but there was always room for improvement.
General points they said that we should change or edit are:
  • Some sequences were played for too long, which using a lots of variation of shots should be placed instead
  • The 'floating' head may not be the best of shots
  • One of the video clips are too far away from the camera- our video must interact with the audience so the use of the 'longer' shots must change
  • The transitions of the changes of shots should go with the beat of the song so it would look much more effective
  • We should edit with our green screen

However, when shown to other media students and classmates, they found our video to be very upbeat, funky and cool. These are some of the comments they made from watching our rough cut.
Overall, they all enjoyed watching the rough cut and look forward to the final version!

From analyzing our rough cut sequence, there were many flaws. As you can see from the photos, these are the shots that the teachers and our group thought to change. Even though the extreme long shot of the singer (Charlotte) had some of the best acting, it is far too much of a wide shot to be used. To improve on this, we could use image framing to possibly zoom in the shot if we wanted to use it. We have many close up shots which varies so taking off the 'floating head' photo should not be much of a problem. The photo where one of the member of our group coming into the sequence to portray that fun image is ineffective because she is sometimes her head is off the shot and the fact that she 'randomly' comes onto screen.

Analysis OF Sequence

ANALYSIS OF SEQUENCE FROM ROUGH CUT

The end sequence will need to be changed to explain the beginning of our video - 'the office scene'... The end sequence will help tie it all together, we will be do this by incorporating another shot of the office scene but this time to have another clip used in the video to show that she is day dreaming. Showing that she wants to change and break free from being a typical Londoner, stuck in the office all day.

General Feedback

Me and Zeyneb asked others to watch our video and give us feedback, as well as teachers feedback.
This is some of the feedback we got given.....

Most of the feedback we got given was good, they liked the performance and song and said the editing matched :)

Teachers feedback

TEACHER'S FEEDBACK

After watching our rough cut our teacher said that we have good video shots and the performance matched the song very well. However, we did get told that

      • We had too much shot of the 'Shadow'
      • Our Green Screen Shots were undone & we needed to do them
      • We needed a better opening
Although, having the teachers watch it and give us feedback helped us and let us know what needed to be done to improve our video, most of the feedback they gave us we already knew and where going to change /improve.

Our rough cut would have been better and show more of what we want for our final video but we had a problem rendering so it only showed half of its potential.

Analysis of one seqence

Theses clips did not quiet link very well with our other shots even though we had alot of nice different shot we found theses ones did not really interact well with the audience there fore theses shopt were too far to view in the wide screen so we are curently planning to change it.

Teacher feedback

After our teacher looked at our rough cut they told us that we used a lot of really nice midshots and close ups however some of our long shots did not fit into place, they also said that our shadow clip was too long and that we must have a background for our green screen and lastly that we need to make it lead into her singing dont go stright into the face. all of the advice that they told us we already thought of them and we all knew about all the things we needed to change so it was nice to hear that we had it right and you what our aim was.

Feedback from Rough Cut.

Voice Clip

The teachers thought our rough cut was good, however they said there was too much of the shadow shot they also didn't like the floating head. They said there was too much footage of the long shot because it would make it hard for the audience to relate to the singer. Also the Lip Syncing wasn't in time in places and we needed to finish the green screen and make sure the transitions were on the beat of the song.

Analysis of one sequence from the rough cut.

These pictures are parts of the rough cut which we need to change, the footage in this scene was used too much.

Also the shot is not compatible with our other shots as they are all mid shots and close ups, although we need a wide variety of shots, our teacher pointed out that it is not really compatible with the rest of the video.

Therefore we should use the shot by trebling it to create a disorientated atmosphere which goes with our song at that particular point of the music video. We may also use words next to the clips as it suits are type of song.

Teacher Feedback

Hello group 32!
I really love the photos that you've posted for your lighting test - I don't remember seeing any footage from these locations in your rough cut.  Did you film in these places?  it looks great!
Don't forget to post a summary of the comments that you got on Friday on your rough cut - along with detail on how you intend to act upon this feedback.

Rough Cut Video

Request for copyright clearance for final song

After sending the letter to request for permission of copyright for the song 'Oh No! - Marina and the Diamonds', we did not get any feedback or answer from the record company.
However, we would still have to carry out and use the track even though we may risk copyright issues from the record company in the future.

Test shots for Lighting & Mise en Scene.

The following shots demonstrates the different types of lighting used. I have also used certain effects in the photographs such as a film grain effect, which looks very effective and visually appealing. As I developed my knowledge of using the camera, I made a note to use the rule of thirds, and use a 3x3 grid to help get my shots accurate in terms of alignment.

In some shots I relied on on-shoot lighting from the light boxes, and in some I used the flash on the digital camera.
Some of the shadows created in the singer/model's face makes some of the shots interesting which could all be potential images to use for the Digipak.

The following shots here show some of the locations that our group used whilst filming.
The mise-en-scene we used are:

  • Office
  • Playroom
  • Garden
  • Green Screen
  • Park
  • Room (focused only on the walls)

Photos from filming sessions. (Behind the Scenes: Part 2)

Our second location was in the college, using the green screen. This would be vital for any editing we wish to do and to incorporate it into our music video.
These are some of the photos taken during the filming process, additionally photos of the singer to be used for our digipak and our advertisement.

Our first location was in the house, which consisted of the office, stairs, playroom and garden shots. These are some of the photos taken during the filming process and modelling the singer, for the front cover albums and posters.
