Analysis of 3 Digipaks that relate to your genre

LILY ALLEN

Lily Allen’s album covers portrays the image of ‘pop’ but has a hint of retro style to it. Therefore, I think that it shows the ‘Indie Pop’ image. Lily Allen looks neutral, portraying her ‘I don’t care’ attitude, which compliments her song list considering that there is some swearing in her songs. There is a heavily based graphic design, which is running through the front, back covers and CD design. It has bold fonts and the style makes it look modern and appealing. The colour scheme is quite simple, using mainly blue, greys and black running through the front and back covers. The colour’s are not dull but The audience it attracts would be young teenagers, as the whole designs look ‘cool, funky and hip.’

ELIZA DOOLITTLE

This also has a similar approach to Lily Allen’s album. It has a graphic design throughout the backgrounds and on the back cover, with loud, bold fonts that are very eye catching and stands out. City images such as tall buildings and other ionic ‘city’ life is shown throughout. However, there is no album title to be seen. There are also random images such as a cat, legs, lips and a dice is seen alongside the ‘city’ therefore illustrating the child-like, carefree behaviour Eliza Dolittle symbolizes. Therefore, it illustrates it's pop and a mixture of indie culture.
Similar to Lily Allen’s album, it is also aimed at female type audience. However, because the image that Eliza portrays, I would think that it would be aimed at a slightly younger audience than Lily Allen, considering that Eliza looks much younger and her name sounds child-like, which relates more to the younger audience.

KATY PERRY

The main colour scheme is bright bold colours, but mainly bright pink. However, unlike the usual conventions of colour schemes, it has more than four. Instead, there is a range of bold colours- but not being too vivid either and using colours that complement each other to prevent over crowding and clashing of colours.

The ‘Teenage Dream’ digipak colour scheme is mainly pink, black and white. We see the occasional bold colour for example, the CD disk itself is seen as a candy sweet. The digipak contains photos of Katy Perry posing which is a typical convention of a digipak in female artists. Katy Perry can attract a wide range of audiences such as boys too as the sexual image she presents herself as. The genre she represents is a mixture of pop and indie. Overall, her album is quite simple compared to the other two artists I have analysed.
