Analysis of a previous student music video.

After watching a few of the previous year A2 music videos, I have selected my favourite out of the rest.

Beggin' you from 283goswell on Vimeo.

I have found this very entertaining and amusing to watch and I think that is a vital component in any music videos. If a music video may not be entertaining in that sense, then I believe it must at least be visually stimulating and appealing to watch. Music videos would have to demonstrate one of the following of amplification, disjuncture and illustration which all have to make the audience want to watch it over and over again.

For this group's music video, they clearly demonstrate their use of different camera angles such as close ups,  over the shoulder shots, extreme close ups, long shots, low angle shots, long shots etc.

They use editing techniques such as video transitions in the beginning to illustrate that the boy is having a dream or perhaps looking back into the past.
They cleverly edited the whole sequence so that the quick cuts of different shot angles or different actions emphasise the fast pace of the music. When it reaches to a particular fast beat, they use editing to amplify that beat of the song which I believe was thought out well.

I particularly like their use of shots for the scene where the main lead singer is walking to the house, where they used a range of shots at different angles from different positions, just for that one scene. An additional scene I really liked was the use of 'going back in time' with the play-station controller. The effects to make it look like a camera viewing this scene is very effective, as they also use fast motion and reverse the whole movements. I find it funny as it is illustrating a story of the two boy's love life.

Although the mise-en-scene may look quite basic as it is shot in locations such as a studio, house and outdoor scenes, their acting is also convincing which I think is vital for a shot to look good and their use of editing makes the whole music video very effective.
